2009 Medicare Part-D Premiums to Increase 12%

CMS recently announced that the average Medicare Part-D premium will increase approximately 12% for 2009.  The 12% increase brings the average premium to $28 per month, about $3 per month higher than in 2008.

2009 Medicare Part-B Premiums Same as 2008

CMS recently released a press release stating that Medicare Part-B premiums for 2009 will not increase over 2008 levels.  This is the first year since 2000 that premiums will not increase.  In 2009, the Part-B premium will be $96.40 per enrollee.

OIG Report Addresses CMS Oversight of Part-D Marketing Materials

The Office of Inspector General recently released a report evaluating CMS’ oversight of Medicare Part-D marketing materials. CMS is charged with overseeing the accuracy of marketing materials for stand-alone Medicare prescription drug plans, which are intended to help seniors choose appropriate plans for their situations.

Update on H.R. 2549
